Chanel lived a unique lifestyle. Her tanned skin, boyish figure, cropped hair, financial independence, and active living influenced a new way of life for the modern woman. As she packaged and marketed her unique style and attitude, she set the standard for women's taste in the twentieth century.

Chanels personal taste inspired her fashion. Her unique clothing and living space followed the palette of her favourite colours of black, white and beige. Her various Art and Theatrical interests influenced her fashion design. Attending a ball dressed as a figure from a famous painting, she reworked the costume into a woman's suit. She garnered Russian employees' artistic skills as they worked their creativity to her embroidery shop's exact specifications.

Coco Chanel's clothing line was known for her strong reputation of perfection, proper fit and taste. The successful Chanel look advanced through the 1920s and 1930s. Vogue magazine applauded the "little black dress," accelerating it forward as the universal fashion basic. The dress simple by day and elegant by night, with tulle and lace, added to romanticize the look.
